In the anime, however, Inuyasha is not so naive. In spite of his unkind attitude, manga Inuyasha actually tries to save the poor, poor old man… just to have confirmed his opinion that being a good guy is a drag. Of course that such an unholy act wouldn’t be in the animated version. In the manga version, he first gets some sotoubas (wood planks, like our graves) from cemetary, to be used as weapons with Shippo’s fire. However, Kagome forgot her backpack in the shrine - and the Shikon shards with it! Grudgingly, Inuyasha lends her the Tessaiga and goes with (reluctant) Shippo to get back the shards and check on Oshou-sama.
He takes the advantage to toss her prejudice back on her face… (for a jerk, another jerk) That’s when Nazuna comes crawling and begging for Inuyasha to save Oshou-sama from the spiders. She’s hurt that he still doesn’t trust her after all this time they’ve spent together, and also because Inuyasha’s silence put all of them in danger. Kagome, however, won’t put up with his rude ways.

This is a crucial part for the plot, because it adds one of Inuyasha’s main reasons to want to become a full youkai, and we also have a glimpse of how lonely was his life after his mother died, because he could not trust in anyone (even Myuuga or Kikyou). Last post, we finished with Inuyasha having to reveal his big secret to Kagome and Shippo - being half-human, half-youkai, there’s one night when he becomes completely human and powerless - specifically, the first new moon night.
